Our Programs

Our programs provide varied activities with an abundance of materials and opportunities for free creative expression under the guidance of skilled, N.Y. State Early Childhood board certified teachers.  Art, music and rhythmic movement, language arts, storytelling, dramatics, puzzles, playroom, books, and manipulative toys are all part of the daily program.  Field trips are included to broaden the child's understanding of the world in which he/she lives.  A mid-session snack and juice are incorporated into each daily program.

The Playgroup children are involved in many hands-on experiences.  They learn by observing and doing, through play, art experiences, listening to stories, singing songs, participating in creative movement activities...The following areas are incorporated into the Playgroup program:

Four Year Old Curriculum / Goals

Reading and Writing Readiness Skills

  • Enjoys listening to stories and poems for longer periods of time.

  • Recalling basics facts about stories.

  • Introduction to the letters and sounds of the alphabet.

  • Learn to print own first name.

  • Understands that words are written using letters.

  • Understands that print communicates information.

  • Drawing (will help children to write more easily, effectively,
    and more confidently later on).

Math and Science Skills

  • Counting

  • Recognizing numerals 1-10

  • Comparing things-More or less, same or different, biggest or smallest, longest or shortest.

  • Matching like objects.

  • Sequencing

  • Grouping objects that are alike.

  • Recognizing shapes and colors.

  • Understanding of time (yesterday, today, tomorrow, and days of the week).

Speaking and Listening skills

  • Communicates needs, and feelings verbally.

  • Copies letters and cuts with a scissors.

Large Motor Skills
